Putting the empty kettle back is an act of betrayal
You used the last of the water, placed the kettle neatly back on its base and walked away as though nothing happened. The next person presses the switch and gets a dry click plus the realisation that kindness has left the kitchen. Refilling it takes eight seconds. We live in a society.
