Why we use it

Run the service

To authenticate users, publish rants, record ratings and provide the features people request.

Keep people safe

To review reports, hide or remove harmful content, prevent abuse and suspend accounts where necessary.

Protect the site

To maintain security, investigate misuse and preserve a limited audit trail of moderation decisions.

Meet obligations

To respond to lawful requests and comply with legal duties where they apply.

Reply to you

To receive and respond to questions, feedback and requests sent through the contact form.

We rely on performance of the service requested by signed-in users where appropriate, and on our legitimate interests in operating, securing and moderating the community. We may also process information where necessary to meet a legal obligation.

04

Public posts and sharing

Rant titles, rant text, categories, ratings and your account username are public and may be viewed or copied by anyone. Do not include private information about yourself or other people in a rant.

Your account email, reports and moderation records are not displayed publicly. Information is processed by service providers involved in authentication, hosting, security, email delivery and website operation, including Supabase, OpenAI, Resend and their infrastructure providers. We may also disclose information where legally required.

Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where required, those transfers are handled using appropriate legal safeguards under the providers’ applicable terms and policies.

05

How long we keep information

Published rants and ratings are normally kept until they are removed or the service no longer needs them. Reports, complaints, restriction records and moderation audit information are kept for as long as reasonably necessary to protect users, manage repeat misuse, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations. We delete or anonymise information when it is no longer required for those purposes.

You can delete your own rants while signed in. The account page lets you download a copy of your Rate My Rant data or delete your site profile, rants, ratings and reports. Limited moderation evidence may be anonymised and retained where necessary. The underlying authentication-provider record and contact correspondence may require a separate verified deletion request.

Short-lived rate-limit records expire naturally and are retained only as needed to protect the service.

Contact enquiries are retained in the receiving mailbox only for as long as reasonably needed to respond, keep an appropriate record and meet legal obligations.

06

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you the right to:

  • ask for a copy of your personal information;
  • correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete or restrict use of your information;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests; and
  • receive certain information in a portable format.

Use the privacy request and complaints form or email us to exercise a right. We may need to verify your identity first. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

07

Cookies and similar storage

The site uses storage needed to operate securely and remember sign-in sessions. When Google AdSense advertising is enabled, Google and its advertising partners may also use cookies or similar technology, subject to the choices offered through a Google-certified consent platform.

You can block or clear cookies and local storage in your browser settings. Blocking essential storage may prevent sign-in or other parts of the site from working properly. You can change advertising choices through the consent controls shown when advertising is enabled. More information is available in Google's partner-sites privacy information.

08

Age restriction

Rate My Rant’s interactive features are intended only for people aged 16 and over. Users aged 16 and 17 receive the protections described in our Online Safety information. We do not knowingly invite children under 16 to create accounts. If you believe somebody under 16 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

09

Contact and changes

Questions, deletion requests or privacy concerns can be sent using our contact form or by emailing info@ratemyrant.co.uk. We may update this notice when the service or legal requirements change. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
