Agreement and operator

Rate My Rant is operated by David McCormick (“we”, “us” or “our”). By creating an account or using an interactive feature, you agree to these Rules & Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not create an account or post, rate or report content.

You must be 16+

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use the interactive parts of Rate My Rant. By confirming your age, you tell us that this is true. Users aged 16 and 17 receive the protections described in our Online Safety information. Posts may contain strong language, although common swear words are automatically masked.

Community rules

Rants can be sharp, annoyed and funny. They cannot be dangerous, unlawful or used to target somebody. Do not post:

threats, encouragement of violence, hate speech or discriminatory abuse;
harassment, bullying, stalking, coercive control or content intended to humiliate an identifiable person;
private or identifying information, including addresses, phone numbers, schools, workplaces, locations or financial details;
defamatory allegations, impersonation, fraud, scams or anything you know is false or misleading;
terrorism-related content, instructions facilitating serious crime, or offers involving illegal drugs or weapons;
encouragement or assistance of suicide or serious self-harm;
sexual exploitation, child sexual abuse material, non-consensual intimate content or links to such material;
spam, advertising, automated posts, malware or attempts to interfere with the site; or
content that infringes another person’s copyright, trade mark or other rights.

Do not name private individuals. Criticism of businesses, public services or genuinely public figures must still be lawful and based on honestly held experience or opinion. Do not use a rant to arrange private contact with somebody under 18.

About swearing

Common swear words are masked automatically, leaving only limited characters visible. Filters are imperfect and masking does not make abusive or unlawful content acceptable.

Your content

You keep ownership of content you create. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, reproduce and technically adapt it only as needed to operate, promote and protect Rate My Rant. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for limited backups, moderation evidence or legal records we reasonably need to retain.

You are responsible for what you post and confirm that you have the right to post it. You can delete your own rant from its card while signed in; doing so also removes its ratings from the public service.

Reports and moderation

Users can privately report a rant. Anyone can also use the complaints and appeals form without signing in. We may review, hide or remove content; impose a timed suspension or permanent ban; preserve proportionate evidence; and contact relevant authorities where reasonably necessary. We may act with or without notice, particularly where safety, law or site security is involved. We are not obliged to pre-screen every post.

Accounts and usernames

Use an email address you control. Your username is unique and permanently linked to your verified account, regardless of capitalisation. Do not impersonate another person or choose an abusive, deceptive or rights-infringing username. You are responsible for activity from your signed-in browser and should sign out on shared devices.

Complaints and appeals

You may complain about content, reporting arrangements or another aspect of the service, or appeal a decision affecting your rant or account. Use the complaints and appeals form, identify the relevant rant or username and explain the outcome you seek. We will reconsider the decision with regard to safety, legality, fairness and freedom of expression. An appeal does not guarantee that the original decision will change.

Availability and liability

Rate My Rant is provided on an “as available” basis. We may change, suspend or end features, and cannot promise the service will always be uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, or loss arising from user-posted content or reliance on it.

Links or references to third parties do not mean that we endorse them. These terms may be updated when the service or law changes; material changes will be presented to signed-in users for acceptance where appropriate.

Law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have non-exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer rights that apply where you live.
