Freshly unleashed
The restaurant brings four tiny plates and tells us the food will arrive “when it is ready”. Now everyone is performing politeness calculations over the final potato while one dish appears twenty minutes after the rest. I ordered a meal, not a group project with portion negotiations.
If I have to unhinge my jaw and compress the meal with both hands, it is no longer a burger. It is an unstable tower with a brioche roof. Half the filling escapes after one bite, the wooden skewer becomes a workplace hazard and I end up eating the remains with a knife and a sense of defeat.
