Rant #14

Sunday morning is not chainsaw o’clock

All week the garden sits in peaceful silence. Then, precisely when everyone might enjoy a lie-in, a neighbour discovers six hours of urgent drilling, mowing, sawing and pressure washing. The project is never visible from the road. I can only assume they are constructing a second, noisier house underground.

Rant #13

Why has my bin become a communal suggestion?

I put one tidy bag in my bin and return to find it packed with somebody else’s cardboard, garden waste and an unidentified carpet. Collection day arrives, the lid will not close and naturally the council leaves the whole thing behind. Apparently ownership ends wherever wheelie bins begin.
